Ostichthys japonicus, commonly known as the Japanese soldierfish or giant squirrelfish, is a deep-water marine fish in the family Holocentridae. Harmless and predominantly red with silvery-pink highlights, this bottom-dwelling species inhabits deep reef environments and is occasionally caught by commercial trawlers and anglers.
