The Japanese wobbegong (Orectolobus japonicus) is a uniquely camouflaged, bottom-dwelling carpet shark found in the tropical and temperate western Pacific. Known for their fringed, whisker-like facial flaps—the name translates to "shaggy beard" in an Australian Aboriginal language—these small sharks spend their days hiding motionless and ambush prey at night.
