Very Large Size 40 cm Deep-sea Giant Isopod Bathynomus giganteus

The most well-known deep-sea giant isopod is scientifically named Bathynomus giganteus. It is a colossal, bottom-dwelling crustacean famous for being a distant relative of the terrestrial roly-poly (woodlouse).  While Bathynomus giganteus is the most famous species (found primarily in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico), there are about 20 different species within the genus Bathynomus found across the world's oceans.
